50 years from now, what will be one of the first cars to come to mind when you’re imagining a scene from the 2000s? Something so common or so distinct that it just fits the time period perfectly.
I’d have to go with the last generation of the Ford E-Series. It went for over 20 years with only one major facelift, and it was always the go-to commercial vehicle for most companies. Even today, it’s impossible to go outside for more than 5 minutes without seeing approximately 47 of them. A close second would be the Crown Vic, but those are mostly common in big cities with lots of taxis; the E-series is common everywhere.
Is there a better choice that I’m forgetting?

I think the E-series and Crown Vic are both good options because they were so ubiquitous for fleet use. As an alternative I think the PT Cruiser is a vehicle that will be impossible to forget just because of the level of attention it received when new, and the amount of hatred it received as it aged. I think how different it was than other small cars from the same timeframe making it stand out from the background will help its infamy.

That’s another good one. Ford really seemed to peak right around this time, as far as sales go.

I would choose a Pontiac. Any Pontiac from that era.

- Honda Insight
- Subaru Impreza WRX STi
- Chevrolet SSR
- Chevrolet Corvette Z06 [C5]
- Lexus IS300
- and the Mazda RX-8, just to name a few.

The PT Cruiser would probably be more remembered than the Crown Vic.

I would say the Crown Vic. They would have been all over every movie and TV show that involved police and/or government agents, which is a lot, and were clogging the streets in everything set in New York. They were also pretty damn common in rental fleets. Things were everywhere.
